From Medicine to Mayhem: Weaponized Pharmaceuticals

Throughout history, fatal or toxic chemical agents have been used as a part of battlefield strategies; However, in today’s arena, chemical warfare has expanded to include the use of legitimate pharmaceutical compounds as weapons.

The same compounds used to help our pets during surgery for example can easily become tools of warfare, prompting us to give a closer look at how technology is both creating new threats and providing solutions to combat them. 

The good news? The technology to defend against these threats exists - we just need to implement it globally. While paper-based manufacturing processes create dangerous blind spots in the supply chain and leave organizations vulnerable, digital cloud-based platforms offer a high level of security, data visibility and product management all from one system. With the ability to track pharmaceutical ingredients in real-time and identify suspicious procurement patterns, end-to-end MES platforms will be the ticket to greater security and become the front line of defense against the weaponization of pharmaceutical compounds.
